ATiM Can Be Proud

The other day lms pointed out that an unknown person named “Kite” had become a “Follower” of our little blog here (see the list of avatars in the sidebar). I was curious, so I chased him down to ask how he had discovered us. Apparently there is some application out there called Stumbleupon which somehow tracks your own interests and recommends sites that you may find interesting. One of our own blog posts turned up in Kite’s stumbleupon, and he thought it interesting enough to start to follow us. But what I really wanted to pass on about his response to me was this:

Not really much intent to post with anything resembling consistency, but your blog is an interesting read. One of the few times I’ve ever read a political blog that wasn’t a shouting matching within five posts.

Hey…that’s what we were trying to do! Nice to have an outside observer confirm that we have achieved some measure of success. Well done, all.

  1. I wish there were more of us though and that all the girls wouldn't have left. Maybe we'll pick up some more commenters through Stumbleupon.

  2. I'm all for getting more girls here and more lefties. I apologize for anything I might have done to chase them away.I know I can be quite . . . frightening.I wish they hadn't gone. I wish Suekzoo could get here during the day. I know, from my experience at Plumline, being blocked by the Net Nanny for a huge chunk of the day makes it very hard to participate in the conversation. It becomes more trouble than it's worth.I'm very glad you stuck it out. Although you miss each participant who no longer does . . . but there's only so many hours in the day, I know that. I can't wait until Mark gets back. Kudos for sticking it out amongst all the boys. When it's all boys, I know it becomes about as appealing as hanging out in a locker room. But maintaining a broad mix is clearly very difficult work. Scott may be right, it might be time to do a little more blog pimping.

  3. KevinIt doesn't feel like a locker room or anything, I just miss the perspective and dialogue with other women. I'll keep hoping they come back or new ones show up. I don't know exactly what chased them all away so I won't speculate. I've thought about emailing all of them but that seems a little pushy to me and they know where we are.I don't think I can pimp the site at Plumline anymore but if anyone else wants to it won't bother me.

  4. Did some others leave for good? I know I haven't seen okie, msjs, or suekzoo lately. Actually haven't seen Michi in a few days either. Are they quits?

  5. As I said qb, I don't know if they're quits or not and haven't heard from any of them lately. It is what it is I guess. I wish some of my local group of gals were interested in blogging but so far no luck there. Like everyone else they're very busy, most of us still work and our group of 12 to 15 does an enormous amount of charity work and political stuff, so they need their time off and I imagine the ones with husbands enjoy spending a little time with them. My husband and I are together 24/7 for both work and play so we enjoy having separate hobbies and interests. He watches TV in the evenings and sports on the weekends when he's not working in the yard or making repairs, and so I blog, sew or read when I'm not gardening or trying to figure out a creative way to cook vegetables and grains.

  6. I was just over at the plumline reading some of today's comments and saw that johnbannedagain isn't going to post there anymore, for awhile at least. He's moving over to Ezra Klein's for now. He says it's taking up too much of his time.

  7. Yeah, it takes up time. Even though I can get back (for now), I've kind of abandoned Plum Line, and probably will stay gone, unless ATiM completely evaporates.

  9. I've given up on Plum Line's comments. Maybe there's some way to adjust it, but I can only get three top comments threads at a time. That's about 15 minutes of Shrink or Bernie's time. If I want to check back on an eaerly thread, it's ten clicks or more. Not Greg's fault, but the Post has decided to kill its comments. So be it. This has been a rewarding place to be. I've got a science thread coming up shortly. Hopefully, there will be a surprise.BB
