We could have some fun with this today. Oct. 15th. is the day OWS, or versions of it, goes global so it’s high time we advertise and capitalize it. I love the stock quotes in there.
A few comments from “hedge fund” and “bankster” types:
Citi’s CEO Vikram Pandit said at a breakfast meeting on Wednesday that he’d be happy to meet with protesters, and he added that their sentiments were “completely understandable,” according to reports by Bloomberg and Fortune magazine.
“Trust has been broken between financial institutions and the citizens of the U.S., and that is Wall Street’s job to reach out to Main Street and rebuild that trust,” Pandit said.
What better way to do it than a corporate sponsorship? Doesn’t “Occupy Wall Street By Citigroup” sound more friendly? And wouldn’t America make a faster comeback if corporations would simply pay people to protest against them?
Bill Gross, co-founder of PIMCO, one of the world’s largest investment firms, put his jingle on Twitter on Tuesday: “Class warfare by the 99%? Of course, they’re fighting back after 30 years of being shot at.”
Bank of America /quotes/zigman/190927/quotes/nls/bac BAC -0.48% : “If you like anarchy and chaos, you’ll love the court filings in our foreclosure cases.”
Samuel Adams /quotes/zigman/131652/quotes/nls/sam SAM +2.02% : “Boston beer: Never as harsh as Boston police.”
Netflix /quotes/zigman/87598/quotes/nls/nflx NFLX -0.83% : “We stopped saying ‘Qwikster.’ You stop should stop staying ‘Bankster.’”
United Airlines /quotes/zigman/617037/quotes/nls/ual UAL -0.72% : “We love people with too much baggage.”
General Electric /quotes/zigman/227468/quotes/nls/ge GE +2.34% : “Thanks for paying your taxes so we don’t have to.”
BP /quotes/zigman/247026/quotes/nls/bp BP +2.92% : “Why does there always have to be this Gulf between us?”
Dr. Pepper /quotes/zigman/507521/quotes/nls/dps DPS +0.25% : “Be a Pepper. Don’t be pepper sprayed.”
Blackberry /quotes/zigman/18534/quotes/nls/rimm RIMM +1.52% : “Could you please try texting whatever it is that you’re so mad about, again.”
Sotheby’s /quotes/zigman/241211/quotes/nls/bid BID +0.70% : “Next time you unwashed hippie activists go barging into to one of our fine auctions, buy something.”

One more but it's not from me:Anita Perry said today that she could sympathize with unemployed people because her son Griffin had to resign his job at a bank in order to campaign for his father, Texas Gov. Let me tell you. Our son has resigned his job because of the federal regulations Washington has put on us,” she said. “He resigned his job two weeks ago. Troll,I thought it was way better than so-so. They were at an inherent disadvantage in doing a prequel to 82, since at the time that movie was something new and different. By trying to stay true to the aesthetic and mood, I don't think they could make it have the same impact. Also, there's no replacing Kurt Russel/McCready. I did think they should have made Kate a little more animated and intense, although I did like her character. I'm glad they didn't try to make her like Ripley or sarah Connor. But they should have made the middle part longer and more intense imo. People get killed to quickly if you know what I mean.At least it killed Super 8 and Cowboys and Aliens imo.

They also needed to do more with Joel Edgerton's character. Lots of intense action with him and Kate.

QB, yeah, not enough sustained intensity in the middle part was ultimately the problem. Plus, my loyalty to Kurt is coloring my perception. The left the door open for a sequel though.

That and flag clothing (as lms said) are two things that drive me insane.Go Tigers!! It's not about nothing qb. It's about the economy and the fact that it's working for Wall Street but not for Main Street. The fact is that these kids and their friends, their brothers and sisters, even their parents, have grown tired of being on the short end of the stick. You say they're not very bright slackers, demanding free stuff which is just silly, all they want is opportunity. You can't hold people back for three years with high unemployment and crappy jobs, when they're lucky enough to get one, and blame it all on them, it doesn't work that way. They want the same opportunity you had when hard work, education and desire actually meant something in this country. The 90% of the population whose median income equals $31K aren't all slackers, but you guys keep pretending you've got your finger on their pulse, it will just make it easier to prove you wrong in the long run.If the political class in this country on the right listened to the Tea Party, and I freely admit they did, don't you think they'll listen to global unrest? I do, and whoever captures some of this energy will be the winner. But go ahead and keep depicting them as a bunch of dirty, lazy, good for nothing kids if you want. Eventually, no one will believe you anymore.

When you get protesters in the streets here in SLC with the same demands that are being made in New York, Seattle and Washington, D.C., you've got something that reaches WAY beyond slacker-dom. Back for a quick one. Check this out Mc Wing.Karl Denninger was one of the founders of the Tea Party back just a few years ago when some concerned conservatives wanted to fire back at the government for what they said was unjust practices.“The problem with protests and the political process is that it is very easy, no matter how big the protests is, for the politicians to simply wait for the people to go home,” says Denninger. “Then they can ignore you.”With the problems posing Americans as big as they are though, said Denninger, it makes sense that so many citizens are joining the movement. Denninger acknowledged that much of America has lost jobs and homes and seen the stock market crash twice in only a matter of years. “People are saying, ‘You know what? I know I’ve gotten screwed by all of this but I don’t know how I got screwed. I just know that it happened. And it all came from New York and Washington DC.”Denninger added that demonstrators with Occupy Wall Street and the offshoots across the world shouldn’t just abandon their goals. “Stay on message, which is that the corruption is not a singular event,” he said. “You can’t focus in one place. You have to get the money out of politics, which is very difficult to do, but at the same time you can’t silence people’s voice.”

Lms, they have to primary incumbents and withhold money from their party. Its the only thing that works. As far as money and politics, when the government spends trillions and regulates industries that effect trillions more in commerce, the money isn't going to come out of it. There is only one way to reduce the influence of money in politics.

In all fairness, OWS is a big tent phenomenon. There are going to be whackjobs. I am still not convinced the Tea Parties were cooked up by the Koch Bros and organized by the GOP, and I expect there is a lot organic in OWS. That being said, Breitbart and Stranahan are doing something a big chunk of the mainstream media will not do, investigative journalists or not. Which is entertain the possibility that something is rotten in the state of Denmark, and it's not all youthful idealists. While not prone to agree with their conclusions (we are not supposed to think that without a well-funded, highly orchestrated conspiracy, groups of people would never get together and protests the oligopolies and kleptocracy, are we?) I think their take is an important part of the broad spectrum of ideas and analysis available. As far as conspiracy theories go, I'm a big fan of No Agenda, which is pretty much all conspiracy theories. Which sometimes end up providing credible alternative explanations and, if nothing else, give you something to think about, if you so choose.

tao and kevinThere was always organizing behind OWS and the Tea Party as well. It's my understanding that a couple of different groups came together in order to increase their presence yesterday. I bet it would be interesting to read some of the emails behind the Tea Party organizing, just out of curiosity. That said, it's still an organic movement and there's a lot of anger out here that they're tapping into. Expose the emails, I don't have a problem with that, so far I haven't read anything very surprising. Maybe there's a smoking gun in there that I haven't read yet but I do recognize a sense of bravado in their words. That's pretty typical of movements. If they advocate violence rather than a peaceful protest let me know. Chaos I understand, it's how you get noticed. tao, everytime you mention the crooks have you noticed it's only Democrats and Mozilo? The American people have been ripped off and they're beginning to realize it, there's enough blame out there to probably put 100 or more people in jail. It's pretty doubtful that'll ever happen don't you think? What we could do though, if there's any will at all, is take steps to restore the confidence of the middle class. There's an awful lot of us. Or we could do what Breitbart and Stranahan are doing, and just keep blaming liberals for everything.

And there remains the fact that if more of these people were gainfully employed with hope for the future, they would be less likely to be protesting. And if there wasn't an impression that Wallstreet was full of folks taking taxpayer money and telling everybody to eat cake if they have no bread, they wouldn't be the targets of so much of the protest. In regards to Breitbart and Stranahan, most folks ( and their tribes ) blame groups they are not really a part of for perceived problems. Generally, liberal pundits don't blame liberals or liberalism for 2010 or the Tea Parties. Conservatives aren't going to blame themselves for OWS. Neither side is going to blame itself for our economic doldrums. They are going to blame the other side– it's always going to be the primary fault of someone outside of their tribe. Or many someones.Blame casting isn't going to make the current circumstance any better, however. People have made up their minds. I'm not at all certain protesting is going to accomplish anything substantive, but it might. Still, until such time as most folks both have something productive to do with their time, and don't feel like they are being abused and manipulated and neglected by the system, this sort of thing will happen. The critiques will happen, regardless. When people you disagree with organize, you are suspicious and assume the worst. Note the ongoing speculation about the evil forces behind the Tea Party. Perhaps that keeps such movements from being completely co-opted, which may be a good thing.
