  1. Wow, that was pretty fast. I just happen to have garlic breath tonight. We made a really strong Caesar dressing and I think I got a little carried away. That looks like a kitchen job for my husband, along with grating onions……….

  2. With this method, he wouldn't even have to crack out the goggles! :o)Seriously, though, this method will be really handy next weekend when I go can salsa and pickles with my cousin… I think I will volunteer for cleaning the garlic!

  3. I've never canned salsa before, that sounds good. I think Okie makes salsa also. We never get that many tomatoes here although I had some great little yellow salad tomatoes this year. My dogs got in the garden again today, so I have to replant the small stuff that was just coming up again. Luckily they left my winter squash alone. I should have made a little goggle movie and put it up on youtube, lol. I'm still laughing about that one.

  4. My cousin has the garden to die for. They grow everything! 12 different varieties of tomatoes, many kinds of peppers, several kinds of beans, peas, broccoli, cauliflower, potatoes, leeks, onions, squashes (several), melons, all kinds of herbs, etc. etc. etc. Plus fruit trees, and ever-bearing strawberries. I think all told, they garden about 1/2 an acre. They can, freeze, make homemade saurkraut. Fortunately for me, she and her husband are very generous and only live 3 miles away. So I go regularly to pick. It's quite the blessing.

  5. Wow, that's a lot of work too. I used to have a much bigger garden, we only have a half acre total but the entire back 1/3 of the property used to be a fruit orchard and vegetable garden. Then we built a warehouse……….now I have a little side yard raised bed garden. It's enough for the two of us though and I still get to do a little canning.

  6. Yes, it's an amazing amount of work. She starts most of her plants from seed, so there's that as well. I usually go help get seeds started in early March. They turn their breezeway into a greenhouse for that operation. It always a wonderment to me how much they grow. When I bought this house six years ago, I was going to put in a raised bed to just grow a few tomatoes and peppers. My soil is totally sand, so to amend it to grow vegetables in it would be a lot of work. But with cousin so close, and always calling to come pick, I'm taking advantage and being thankful…and have given her several nice serving bowls and platters in trade. Win-win!

  7. Thanks for that. That's even easier than the little rubber tube I've been using. I can't wait to give it a try.
