Robots Are Coming! (To Take Our Jobs)

I love optimistic futurism, and, frankly, I think it’s generally correct. Technology makes things better (well, everything except the human ability to greet tremendous, global improvements with bitter disappointment, because they still aren’t haaaappppyyyyy). Andrew MacAffee has it right, I think. Robots are coming to take our jobs, but the net result is it’s a good thing.

For a counter point, I direct you to The Android Sisters 1984 song, “Robots are Coming”.

“Robots are coming. Give us your jobs.”

  1. You’re freaking kidding me. Andrew McAfee is one of my pledge brothers from college. Now he’s doing TED talks? Don’t I feel like a loser now.

At least I still have my hair.

  2. Robots were supposed to do our jobs leaving us to the life of an aristocracy on par with the the Victorian upper classes where we could all indulge our passions. Or at least that was my take-away message from the too much Asimov I read as a kid.

  3. A high school friend of mine who has math degrees from Stanford and Berkeley now programs robots.

Actually, he looks pretty damned good bald. If I were bald, I’d want to look like him.

If you got something to say, pitch a TED Talk. I link to the one’s I think are good, but some of them truly are kind of WTF. If you’ve got something groovy to talk about, we could be linking to you here. 😉
