Question: If Lawrence O’Donnell hears these dog-whistles, doesn’t that make him the dog?
In other contexts, of course, the PGA tour would be mocked for being as lily white as the Republican Party, but in O’Donnell’s fevered imagination, a reference to the PGA is intended to invoke images of sexually obsessed black men. What I really wonder is whether O’Donnell is as deranged as a true belief in this theory suggests, or if he just assumes MSNBC’s audience is.
Host Martin Bashir was certainly right when he said “Wow, things are getting lower and lower each day,” although not in the way he probably meant it.

That was an amazing deconstruction of the suggestion that Obama played a lot of golf during his first term.
Actually the most surprising thing out of O’Donnell’s mouth is that the politician doesn’t get the final say on what goes into the speech.

Even I find that hearing of a dogwhistle particularly circuitous and stretched. The rather frequent claims of Obama’s frequent golf outings are more simply a Rovian reversal of trying to accuse Obama of being lazy (which might be the real dogwhistle here, not the link to Tiger Woods’s debauchery). This is of course a laughable attempt to make him seem less dedicated to the job than his notoriously vacation happy predecessor.

There is an enormous effort to pre-poll and test market any concept or even phrase which goes into a major speech. I don’t think anything Mitch McConnell says rises to that level of advance scrutiny. Golf jokes are just a cheap laugh aimed at the Fox News/RedState crowd. It’s a gimme putt.

O’Donnell has close ties to persons within The Room from whence all R speeches emanate to the collective, in unvarying dogwhistle at a steady 22KHz. While O’Donnell cannot hear 22KHz, he carries an MSNBC Brand Audiometer with him at all times. As McConnell spoke, the audiometer pegged.
When I was 5 years of age I could actually hear a dog whistle. We had sheep dogs who brought our dairy cattle into the barn on my dad’s dog whistle. When I enlisted I was 25 and could hear to 18.6KHz, which was good range for a human being. 44 years later I can only hear to about 13KHz. The dog whistle goes right by me, so I need folks like O’Donnell to monitor for me. Of course, I have never seen or heard of him until this morning and I do not watch any cable news, except when it is in my face in the gym.
Oh, well, back to the low notes for me. OMMMMMM

So funny Mark. As someone who got back late last night from three very needed days of vacation at the beach I just can’t seem to get worked up yet about politics………….or football for that matter………………I’ll see y’all on Tuesday or something when I get back into the groove.
I didn’t watch a minute of the RNCon and may not watch a minute of the DNCon. I couldn’t help but hear about a few highlights and have to wonder what’s happening with Eastwood………………..who let him in the building? I always loved his movies though. My oldest daughter actually took a picture of an empty chair on a stage for a class once and now I understand the meaning…………………….lol

Glad you appreciated it, Lulu. You have experienced some of that high end loss, too? I will have missed both conventions this year, as well.
Watched Clint from an email attachment. It was sort of endearing. I wondered if Eva Longoria would top it at the DNC, but not enough to watch.
I thought ol’ Rowdy Yates looked frail, for the first time. That was a bit sad – reminded me of my own mortality.

Unrelated to dog whistles or the PGA tour, I’d just like to brag on my new city, Mayor Bob Buckhorn, Chief Jane Castor, and Sherriff David Gee, for the way they handled the RNC and protesters. There were a sum total of TWO convention-related arrests for the entire RNC. No clashes with police, no unexpected major disruptions downtown. And they were well ready for trouble — they cleared out the downtown jail to make it available as a full-service detention and processing center, with a capacity somewhere >1,000.
It helped that there weren’t as many protesters as expected (by either the police or the protesters themselves.). But there was still plenty of opportunity for trouble and nothing happened, except for that side-swipe by TS Isaac.

Speaks well of Tampa and perhaps of the dampening effect on protesters of TSs.

Yeah, I know what you mean. For the first time in my life I was afraid to swim in the ocean yesterday………………..the waves were just a little too big for me. Beautiful to watch though and luckily Thurs and Fri were fine and I got to swim a lot with my daughter and granddaughter. The little guy still can’t go out very far but he had a lot of fun digging up sand crabs. Youngest is visiting from CO and goes home tomorrow….boohoo. And Eastwood’s rambling reminded me of a few older friends we have……….yikes, poor guy.
I’ve never been that interested in the conventions although I’ve watched a few select speeches over the years. I do enjoy the debates generally though and I’ll watch those this year.

Is the Pacific Coast getting full of jellyfish, Lulu? That cold ocean always seemed less inviting to the stingers than the Gulf Coast – but my experience is limited to Mission Bay, and is now 24 years ago.

Can’t we all at least agree that the Republicans just plain suck at dog whistling? Even I caught the golf=Woods=lots of sex (w/white women!)=lazy. Listening to that speach felt like the last Klan meeting I was at, er, heard about.

George, it seems clear to me that the Rs brought all this derision on themselves by having aging Appalachian white
ladyperson McConnell deliver the punch lines. Where is Michael Steele when he is so sorely needed?LikeLike
I’ll tell ya Mark, those R convention speakers were almost as white as MSNBC/NBC’s news line-up. Imagine, the Senate “Minority” (OMG!!!1!!!1! I just now “got” that!) wanting a prominent speaking position. What a hater!

Mark, jelly fish come and go. I haven’t been stung in years. I only swim in the ocean in the summer though these days and the water this weekend was 68, which is glorious for our beaches. We stayed in Carlsbad but our favorite beach is in Oceanside.
