Bits and Piece: New Year’s Eve Edition

There aren’t nearly enough songs out there where whistling is used effectively or at all. Both of these always make me smile.

Taj Mahal: Ain’t Gwin to Whistle Dixie Anymo’

and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes singing Home

As we head into 2012 a look back at 2011 seems like a logical activity.

Reuters has some compelling images and videos.

Somehow the creation of this blog was left out of all the videos. But thanks to Scott, Kevin, lmsinca and whoever else I am missing that worked to create this place.

On a personal note, I will miss 2011. It was the year I bought my first home and, more importantly, the year my son was born. Here’s to an even better 2012.

  1. To quote lms: I'm baaaack! You guys have had some fascinating discussions and posted awesome videos while I've been gone; not to single out individuals, but Scott's "Bits & Bobs" last night and Mark's videos of Notting Hill and his step-niece Katie were especially fun for me. We're such a great bunch of people! :-)Here's to a successful, peaceful and happy New Year for all of us. May taroya's new employer change their drug-testing policy, ashot v2.0 quickly start to sleep through the night, BroJS and his wife have a lovely party (would've crashed it, MsJS, had I still been in that part of the country tonight!)(with a Little Black Dress and pearls, of course), lms and Co. continue to have success with the Amazon sales, and all of us continuing to agree to disagree about the best way to run things.Happy New Year, everybody, and safe travels to anyone who's still on the road!

  3. Happy New Year to all!Ashot, congrats on the son! And the new house. Picked out any paint chips yet?Of course they won't change their policy. They only dislike regulations when such prevents them from further raping the environment and ripping off more tax payers. Otherwise, they all kinds of into regulating what you wear and what you do on your days off.BTW, is Bernie on here? If so, I extend my condolences on the closure of your boutique.Ims, may you continue your success, and here's to hoping that this new year will be better for all.

  4. Oh, and NoVA–you'd have been proud of me. I got into it with TSA yesterday, and since I'm home safe and sound (and on time) I think I can claim the victory in this round! 🙂

  6. I started doing a post to start a discussion but realized it was lameI know, same problem here, I'm still putting Christmas away…………..and daughter number two took off on her long drive home a couple of hours ago so I'm feeling melancholy. I have one funny story though. Yesterday we turned the Rose Parade on and watched intermittently between taking down the tree and just this morning realized the parade is today…..lol. I don't know which year they were re-broadcasting yesterday but it sure wasn't this year's parade.I'll try to put something together as well in the way of a post, but I'm having trouble getting motivated. We spent part of New Years Eve in the emergency room with daughter number one, bronchitis turned pneumonia with anti-biotic allergic reaction. She's going to hang out here for a few days and let mom take care of her though. Politics just isn't that interesting to me right now………….sorry.

  7. Sincerely hope she feels better.I forgot all about the Rose parade. But at least I didn't watch it before it happened!I emailed with Kevin that I'm getting ready to lauch a law blog, so I'm dividing time even more (and STILL procrastinating on some end of year tasks that have to be done today–the very last of the last, last deadlines).

  8. But at least I didn't watch it before it happened!I know…………….not a great start to the New Year. I'm also shopping today for groceries, so boring, but I'm so tired of eating holiday crap. Good luck with your work, I have a couple of long weeks of bookkeeping ahead of me but I'm putting off beginning until tomorrow. And thanks, she gave us a little scare in the ER when she had an immediate reaction to the IV drug……….but they treated it right away and found something she could take a couple of hours later. She'll be fine now with some rest.Maybe someone will be motivated to put up the first post of the New Year.

  9. If you like whistling in music, check out Andrew Bird, who also uses another underutilized instrument in rock – the violin.
