Red Ink

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

We’re down to 32 teams and a lot of brackets are awash in red ink.  Yesterday’s 16 games featured eight upsets, including two #2 seeds (Duke and Missouri) and a #4 (Michigan).

While no one in ATiM Rocks anticipated the Duke or Mizzou loses, the seed-differential bonus pixie was very busy bestowing gobs of points on the brackets of those willing to go with the likes of South Florida, Ohio, Xavier, NC State and Purdue.  Our leaderboard now looks like this:

USF Baby: 102; Moderately Yello: 98; DogJS: 89; MIA#4: 74; Michigoose#2 and ashot: 71; Blade Warriors: 65; Okiegirl: 62; MIA#2: 61; Okiegirldog: 49

Will VCU continue its post-season magic?  How’s the anticipated matchup between Marquette and Murray St. going to play out?  Is the Big Ten conference as strong as pundits like to claim?  (note to Yello: three) Madame Commish looks forward to more upsets and hopes you all have a great weekend.

  1. Sitting in Logan Airport, having just arrived after starting the night (rather, continuing yesterday) by flying out of SLC at 0100. Waiting for the Peter Pan bus to whisk me out to the MBL, arriving in Woods Hole three hours from now. I think I’m going to hunt some chow down. . .

    Go State!!!

    Boo Ohio!!!

  3. Of the current top 6 in our pool, two (USF Baby and Moderately Yello) have ‘lost’ teams as the eventual champion or runner-up. Unless the teams listed below all falter, it’ll be hard for them to stay on top.
Teams that need to do well for each of the others:
DogJS: Kentucky, OSU, Vandy, Kansas, L’ville
    MIA#4: L’ville, UNC, Vandy
    Michigoose#2: MSU, Kansas, Gonzaga
    ashot: MSU, UNC, Kentucky, FSU

  4. Goose – You’re kidding! The lovely Mrs. Blade left Salt Lake City on a noon flight to DC.

I’m having a good round in the 32. 3 for 3 so far and Wisconsin is in the lead. Problem is that my brackets are extremely limited going forwards. If I am perfect in predicting my surviving winners, my best performance is 9/16, 4/8, 1/4, 1/2. Ah well, I’m enjoying the tournament. Next year, I’m going for every #12 seed over every #5 seed. The #12’s were 2 for 4. I should have bitten my tongue and gone with VCU over the Shockers.

  5. Wow, some really great games today! Iowa State seems to have settled down the second half, so we’ll see if they can pull it off over KY. Just now tuning in to Baylor-Colorado.

  7. FB, next year it will be the 11 or 13 seeds that are upset-minded, lol. That’s why I love the tourney, whether I have a winning bracket or not.

  8. And ISU cannot buy a 3-point basket. 2 of 16 at 10:11 to go in the game. They have had some wide open attempts.

  9. FB–it’s because I needed to work a full day yesterday and yet be here in Woods Hole by 4:00 this afternoon. The redeye is the only way to do it from SLC.

    I am SOOOOOOO dedicated! 🙂

    Go Big Ten! Go State!!!

  10. Some entertaining games yesterday, but the lack of upsets made for little change in the standings. Maybe we’ll get some today. Anyone have an upset in a bracket today?

  13. I’m 5 for 5 in my surviving picks. I’ve got MSU, FSU, NC, and KU as winners today. After the first round massacres, I’ll be happy if I get 8 teams into the Sweet 16.

  14. So nobody had NCState? Heh. Ahead at half. So far it looks like Scott’s early assessment of Gtown was correct. We’ll see. OTOH, I’m out of it bracket-wise, so I’m just enjoying the games. There is some good basketball being played.

  15. okie, MIA#2 (which I’m scoring offline) had NC State. By my reckoning, those bonus points have vaulted this bracket into 4th place.

  16. The state of OH takes down the state of FL (Cincy over FSU, Ohio over USF) and Purdue can’t hold a lead in the final minute.

    A fun but long night.
