  1. I entered two brackets. I’m not sure how. But I justify it by saying that I’m trying to be both liberal and conservative with my picks.

  2. Interesting brackets. Missouri seems to show up in a lot of Final Fours. It’s going to be rough. Seems like we’re up against the entire Okie household.

My sons wore their KU sweaters to school yesterday. Hopefully, nobody minded.

  3. ****BREAKING****

Everyone should really start to tune in to the Syracuse/UNC-Asheville game. Shaping up to be the greatest upset in the history of March Madness.

  4. Yes, almost the entire Okie household entered. (okiegirlcat was too disdainful and aloof to fill out a bracket.) However, the okieboydog entry is nothing but higher seed picks in every game, so he’s just a benchmark. He’s a most beautiful dog (shepherd/husky mix), but he has “vacant” signs flashing in his eyes.

Scott, at least your team did not go down in the 1st round. Are they missing Melo or do you think it would have been close anyway?

Probably would have been close anyway. The trouble, from what I could tell, was that NC was making 3’s and Syracuse wasn’t, but kept launching them anyway. I won’t be surprised if they go down in the next round. Everyone should play zone against the Orange. Ironically, given how dominant their own zone D is, they seem to have no idea how to play against one themselves.

  6. Scott, I’m sorry I missed that game. On 2 of 3 brackets I picked Syracuse to go down to KState (which still would be an enormous upset) and in the other I picked them to go one more round.

I’m surprised at the poor showing from WVU. Incredibly poor shooting and getting thumped on the boards. Or is Gonzaga just on fire?

    • My highest ranking bracket of five at ESPN is 900,173. All three Big 12 teams won. K-St. ugly, but tough, Baylor stupid as usual, and IA St., entertaining as usual, as well as convincing. Royce White is one of the most interesting of current college ball players. Their season should end Saturday against KY.

  7. This isn’t looking good for me. The worst of all possible match-ups was VCU vs. Wichita State. I would have had VCU as my upset pick and went for two of the other 5-12 matches. But, I really liked Wichita State and had them as my dark horse for the final four. My big gamble was Davidson over Louisville, which clearly didn’t pan out.

Ah well, I can still beat Goose’s dream bracket.

  8. I’ve got 3 sizeable upset picks today, all over Big East teams: Texas over Cincy, Xavier over Notre Dame, and the big one, Belmont over G’town. The Big East was not good this year.

    Go Belmont!

    • Scott, UT was not a close 6th in the Big Twelve and is not very good. Our toughest big guy, the one who would have defended Gates, is out for the season, injured against MO in the conf. tourney. 8 schollies left standing, 6 are frosh, and totally inconsistent. Not sharpshooters. Happy to just have made it into the tournament under the wire. One star guard. Pretty good hustle, which often made up for bad shooting and too many turnovers. They could beat Cincy. They beat K. St. once and IA St. 2 of 3. Those were upbumps in their curve of inconsistency.

I picked Cincy in 3/5 brackets. If Wangmene [missing tough big guy] were available I would have picked UT 3/5.

I probably should have done some more research on UT, but having watched Cincy 3 times this year, I just couldn’t pick them to win. I’m probably too focused on the Big East, since that is what I know the best. When it is a strong conference, I pick them all to go deep, and when it is weak, I pick them all to lose quick. I was wrong last year (only 1 made it out of the first weekend, I think). This year I’m 5 for 5 so far, though.

  10. An update on ATiM Rocks:

Congrats to those who correctly picked Colorado and/or VCU as upsets yesterday.

I’m tallying a total of 6 brackets offline, 4 from Mark in Austin and 2 from Michigoose. MIA#4 got 14 of 16 correct yesterday, including both upsets, for a total of 50 points. MIA#2 was also 14 of 16, but he missed VCU on that one and scored a ‘mere’ 29. Michigoose#2 had 13 of 16, with both upsets, for total of 49. And her Big Ten extravaganza bracket had 13 of 16, including Colorado, for 28 points.

So our top 10 so far are:
    1. MIA#4: 50
    2. Michi#2: 49
    3. USF Baby: 35
    4. Moderately Yello1: 34
    5. ashot: 30
    6. okiegirl and MIA#2: 29
    8. Michi’s Big Ten: 28
    9. Moderately Yello2 and okiegirldog: 27

      What’s the entry fee?

BTW, Mark, it appears you were right about Texas. 2 points in the first 9 minutes. They’re stinking up the joint.

      • It appears you were right about Cincy, too. A mediocre team lost to another mediocre team.

Valiant comeback by Texas after an abysmal first 15 minutes. They tied it, but couldn’t keep the momentum. If Cincy had shot their foul shots down the stretch they way they did most of the year, the Horns might well have won.
