Bits & Pieces (Thursday Evening Open Mic)

If you’ve never seen the Star Wars Gangsta Rap, you should.

Because it’s fun, and fun is good. Speaking of fun, you should also watch Muppet Bohemian Rhapsody, if you haven’t. Of course, it helps if you’re familiar with Queen’s original. It’s really well done.

Some other stuff might go here. Like this! Chastity Bono appearing on the Sonny & Cher show around age 3.

You’ve got to love that set. Okay. That’s it unless something else occurs to me. — KW

  1. I saw Durbin item over at you know where. It sure seems to take the wind out of the sails of O's campaign strategy, unless he's going to pivot to running against the obstructionist, do-nothing Dem Senate.

  2. Yeah, I wondered why Reid didn't bring it to the floor and at least make the R's filibuster it or have the House vote it down.

  3. Oh come on you guys(qb & McWing), everyone knows the new threshold is 60. Durbin would have to whip Republicans to pass it.qb, I told you I'd comment on your statement earlier regarding Obama and the disenchantment of some liberals. I appreciate the fact that you didn't seem all that interested in playing the white liberal race card, that was encouraging. I also agree that Obama over sold, and some of us over believed his campaign rhetoric. I don't find that terribly unusual in Presidential campaigns (I'm a political cynic), especially one where the nominee has the speaking abilities of some one like Obama and the campaign staff and speech writers to match. I also understand that he grates on your last nerve, my husband feels the same way now and he's a Democrat. Bush had a natural smirk that used to drive me crazy, and Palin, don't get me started. So here's the point, I think conservatives may not understand everything you think you do about all of us liberals who placed so much hope in Obama. We were down before he won. After 9/11 and almost eight years of war, a shrinking manufacturing base and middle class, rising health care costs, a weird obsession with terrorists, color coded alerts and torture, an economic event that had people hiding money under their beds, a housing market crashing around our heads and people losing jobs by the thousands, we would have welcomed just about any Democrat with open arms. I actually remember telling people, just wait, the the Inauguration is coming, they'll figure something out. Here's the thing though, it could have been Hillary, Edwards (pre-scandal) or Obama, it didn't matter that much, we would have circled the wagons anyway. We were hoping for someone to reverse course and lead us out of the mess. We wanted a leader. Now the reasons why it didn't work out are varied and contentious, not just between Republicans and Democrats, but within the Democratic party itself, but that's an entirely different argument. Whether he can crawl out of the hole he's in or lead us out of the one we're in is debatable but of course that's what elections are for, if you believe we really have a choice in the matter, some of us aren't so sure anymore.

  4. Kevin, those were great videos! As one who believes that The Muppet Show was the acme of TV broadcasting, I couldn't agree more with your Bohemian Rhapsody link!Too tired to think about politics tonight (sorry), although I thought that lms's broadside on The Morning Plum was more than warranted. And a good bunch of posts today by all.I just spent three hours putting together an IKEA dresser, only to decide that I need to take the whole thing back apart, go to Home Depot tomorrow to buy a cordless screwdriver, and then put the %#$%^ thing back together again that way. AARRGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!And to think that I've got two more IKEA pieces to put together. . . you guys may see me next as the Lady of Shalott. . .Out flew the web and floated wide-The mirror crack'd from side to side;"The curse is come upon me," criedThe Lady of Shalott.

  5. Jeeze michi, I should get you together with my daughter, she's just in CO after all, and she just did an Ikea armoire, bed set and night stand last weekend. They're a pain in the ass. It'll be easier the second time I think. See you when you're done.

  6. Lm, just read the morning plum. Wow. Good on you, but don't waste another drop of your precious time on those guys. They ain't nowhere near worth it.Anyway. I've got a guy nobody knows I'm going to solicit. He may not participate but he's very thoughtful and well educated ( teaches philosophy, also creating an online graphic novel ) … Hey may not have the time but I think he'd be a good addition, if he did.

  7. Tell her that as long as she's got a cordless screwdriver with a backup battery, she can bring her Land Man and they can giggle at me while I work! I can't figure out what's wrong–I checked all the angles with a square edge and they're all fine, all the screws are flush with the wood, everything's in the right direction (up/down, left/right, etc.). Bleh.Gonna go have a glass of wine. Or two.
