Morning Trivia

No google…you are on your honor.

There have been four universities that have produced both a US president and a Super Bowl winning quarterback. Name the schools, the presidents, and the quarterbacks. (One school actually produced two Super Bowl winning qb’s.)

  2. Ok…..trying to do this without the google. The obvious one is Michigan – Gerald Ford and Tom Brady.I'll have to ponder the rest…

  3. Yeah, definitely know three … fourth is hard!

  4. Oh yeah, got the fourth, but I admit I googled to confirm its President grad.I won't post, them, though, so others can wrack their brains. Three are pretty easy, folks. The fourth might give you trouble.Great question, Scott. Never thought about this before.

  7. s'cat, the three I could think of were all easy. What's tough is all the southern QBs and no southern presidents. Was some Super Bowl winner from UVA? No Ivies in the Supe.At first I thought the 2 QBs from one school had to be Dawson and Griese, but I could not think of a Purdue Prez.Maybe the last one is a trick – like the QB or the Prez attended law school or grad school at the named university.

  8. The last one is beyond difficult. If you say you got this without google I will demand a polygraph!

  9. Now if it was a baseball question I might stand a chance. Football, not so much.

  10. Yes Mark, very difficult. I couldn't get it without google.lms…baseball question tomorrow. Stay tuned in.

  11. I knew the fourth because of where I'm from … sort of. Although if you are a bit of a presidential history buff you probably have enough of a clue to figure it out or have a good guess.

  12. And, no, the fourth isn't a trick question involving law or grad schools. Both were undergrads.

  13. Re: the mention last night of slow blogging.I have noticed (for myself at least) that we don't get hateful, or snipe at each other. I like that. Now, I enjoy a bit of good snipe, just not here. I came here as much for personalities as for discussion.Admitted, though, it does get slow. Part of it is that we do have multiple threads going at one time, I am splitting my time between work, PL (because I DO like a little heat), and threads here.I think that we can keep this rolling, although perhaps not at the speed of PL, but do we really want that speed? I am not a political expert by any stretch of the imagination; I only got interested maybe a couple of years ago, on and off. This is a real education, and I need to take time to read things, and think about them some. Not that I want to be perfect or correct all of the time…just 99.99%.Therefore, I will not post here as often, but I won't leave anytime soon.So there, ya just hav'ta put up with me.

  14. OK, for everyone else who hasn't googled it yet, number 4 is….Miami of Ohio, and the two Bens…Roethlisberger and Harrison.

  15. Man, can't believe I missed Harrison. He's my favorite President! 😉

  16. TaroyaYou're right of course, it's not a competition with the Plumline and we're attempting to encourage a different dialogue dynamic. I just worry that people might get bored if there's not enough action so to speak. That's one of the reasons I keep encouraging others to put up a post of their own. I think it's about ownership, the more we have invested, the more successful it will be.It's a great experiment.

  17. As we get more accustomed here, there will be more posts. I don't have any ideas for one just yet, but it is only a matter of time.

  18. Taroya,I'm trying to drop in to PL now and then, but honestly I am finding it increasingly pointless right now — 95% just pointless spitballing. But I view this place in part as a place where sane people can discuss issues raised there when they are worthwhile.

  20. This came at the right time — I was getting a little burned out at PL.

  21. I was getting burned out at PL and won't do more than an occasional drive-by there at this point. With fewer people and noboy paid to post, like Greg is at PL, there will inevitably be lulls. I'm fine with that although I think we should be more willing to post links with brief thoughts and not feel required to post longer comprehensive posts. You never know what will bring about a compelling discussion.

  22. NoVA and ashot, I think a lot of us were getting that burned out feeling between the quirky IT and a lot of other nonsense, we landed here for a reason.I also think just posting a few links with intriguing comments could turn a slow day into a memorable one. You never know what will get the juices flowing. :-)And besides, it's fun.

  23. Awesome idea, lms. It kind of implies a potential Right Coast Bureau, which would probably be … Scott. Kevin in the middle (just slightly to the right). Then we could figure out how to designate the rest of us. Very silly but fun.Ashot, agree with you. We will need to work at producing worthwhile content to post. Just producing an endless stream of provocative talking points a la what PL often is easier easier but not so worthwhile.

  24. Sometime before Monday I will do another post on the Supremes, concentrating on my own area of federal practice, which is labor and employment. I propose to capsulize 9 cases. The surprise for the non lawyers may be that the cases do not signify a "direction" or an ideology, but a very incremental approach typified by Roberts. When I go outside my own area to read a case like Mensing, I get a different vibe, and I will explain all that and wonder aloud if it is me or thee?

  25. Oh, cool, Mark! I am looking forward to that!

  26. qb, we could call one of them simply "Texas", lol.Mark, looking forward to it as well.

  27. Mark, BTW, you're posts thus far have all been really great. Can't wait for the next one.

  28. Is Texas the first foreign bureau, being a sort of independent super-state?Mark, at least you and ashot and I can have some fun. I am actually sitting here this morning doing some Powerpoints on the Dukes case and what it mean more broadly in class action defense. (One of a string of speaking gigs breathing down my neck.)I could write something on Mensing and other preemption cases if you think that would be of interest to people. It is one of my areas of pretty deep knowledge, although I have spent much more time in other forms of FDA preemption than generic.

  29. Great! After I write why Mensing puzzles me [as one who reads non-labor, non-procedure cases casually] you will be able to explain Mensing so it makes sense to me. OR you could explain it first. Then maybe I would not even mention it in contradistinction to the L&E law, which does make sense to me as a practitioner.

  30. Ha, I'm not sure there's a way to explain Mensing in a way that makes sense at the same time the other cases like Levine also make sense. Maybe I'll take a shot over the weekend, but don't hold up your show for me. FDA regulation is one of the hardest areas for nonlawyers to grasp, imo. Much of it is just so arcane and contrary to their conventional wisdom.I will be interested in what you think Dukes means for discrimination cases in the future. Not my area at all, although I did oversee our firm alert on it and am doing some other writing and speaking relating to it (as class action law).
