George Bush, Queen Elizabeth, and Vladimir Putin all die and go to hell. While there, they spy a red phone and ask what the phone is for. The devil tells them it is for calling back to Earth.
Putin asks to call Russia and talks for 5 minutes. When he is finished the devil informs him that the cost is a million dollars, so Putin writes him a check.
Next Queen Elizabeth calls England and talks for 30 minutes. When she is finished the devil informs her that the cost is 6 million dollars, so she writes him a check.
Finally George Bush gets his turn and talks for 4 hours. When he is finished the devil informs him that the cost is $5.00.
When Putin hears this he goes ballistic and asks the devil why Bush got to call the USA so cheaply. The devil smiles and replies: “Since Obama took over, the country has gone to hell, so it’s a local call.”

Here's a link for the EW fangirls:-). This seems like a really basic mistake. She's been planning this move for months and she forgets to report $130K in income until Politico asks her about it? Everybody 's allowed to make mistakes, but isn't she, you know, a Haaaaaarvaaaard professor or something? Thanks, Mr. Troll. It is kind of you to think of us.All (and especially Mr. Troll, see below), my time has been quite limited this week, but I have been after-the-fact reading posts and comments and following links and I am really impressed with all of you. I think we are staggering toward a more scholarly PL, if you will. Thanks to all. I hope this weekend to post a montage of posts and comments I would like to belatedly, and briefly, address. Kind of a summary. What do you all think about making this a regular weekend event, an open thread post that specifically encourages review of the week's posts and comments? Issues we may want to revisit but don't want it buried so far back that it is missed by most if not all.

Mr. Troll, thank you for asking about the event. It went off almost without a hitch (and the hitch had to do with AV which is not my bailiwick). We had a great turnout. I earned lots of brownie points. Life is good. I'm exhausted.

I have to laugh at myself. I think I previously described the event as "huge." It only was "huge" in my little world. An endowed professional lecture that actually is pretty low budget. But our speaker this year generated interest from an audience that would not normally be interested, so we had 300 in attendance instead of 100.

Topic was sports performance training (and the role of physical therapy in same). Yes, my challenge was watching the registrations increase beyond expectations and adjusting for it.

Our speaker was from Michael Johnson Performance Training. An alum who has made good in the sports training world from olympics to pro and on down.

Ahhh. I've had to do physical therapy for tennis elbow, and now for a strained rhomboid muscle, and it looks like a liscence to print money. No wonder the interest.

Mr. Troll, what do you mean "a liscence to print money"? At least the academics and researchers and most of the clinicians I work with our extremely dedicated and not necessarily in it for the money. Although I'm sure, like any profession, it has its share of those.I hope the therapy was successful for you.

Okie, I think that's a great idea for a weekend thread, sort of a re-cap with comments. Should we put up a post with links to previous week posts or just an open thread do you think? I also agree that we had some great discussions this week. There are lulls but everyone seems to be wandering back in. I'll be glad when you, michi and sue aren't quite so busy, you crazy "fangirls" you.

What I'm saying is that the end-users of that research are making a bunch of money. The tennis elbow cleared up, but the rhomboid has not. I actually quit the therapy and rounds some exercises online that have helped.

Then if there is enough interest on a particular topic, post a new thread. Have not thought through about accomplishing that.

It seems things are never exactly as they appear.Striking out with part II, Politico, clearly the main launderer of these smears, tries this one: "Elizabeth Warren became a hero of the left for her unrelenting pursuit of accountability and transparency with big banks and Wall Street firms that took billions of dollars in federal bailout money in 2008. But when it comes to how her own bailout watchdog committee spent more than $10 million in taxpayer money, Warren has been a lot less forthcoming. Warren, who is seeking the Democratic Senate nomination in Massachusetts to take on Republican Scott Brown, has yet to break down exactly how her congressional panel spent the money on travel expenses, meals and consultants, and the panel never revealed how much Warren was paid while she served as chairman."That highlighted portion is contradicted inside the article, where we read that Warren did report a total of $64,289 in compensation from the Congressional Oversight Panel from 2009 to 2010. Chris Bowers continues: "So Warren did disclose how the panel spent money, but the scandal is that there hasn’t been a line-by-line itemization. Mr. Troll, first and foremost, I request permission to be treated as michi to address you as "troll" instead of "Mr. Troll." As an aside, are you saying you thought your PT was overpaid? The funded research in my department is probably more fundamental (increasing mobility in infants with CP, decreasing pressure ulcers in those with diabetes, wheelchair-bound folks, and others with a propensity. You get the idea. The clinicians we train, not the researchers, probably are more your target.

And, normally, they have no qualms about trying anything they think will work (but, hopefully, won't backfire).

Okie, by all means, call me Troll, I forgot to tell you (and everyone) that it is really just a joke. I should probably change it back to just Troll McWingnut. The facility is owned by a group of Orthopeadic Surgeons. I'm sure they're paying their PT's ok, it just seemed like the therapy was being dragged out, and despite my complaining of no improvement, he kept doing literally the same thing. When I implemented the exercise regimen I found online, I got some pretty good improvement in less than a week. I felt a little played.Lms, I'm not a huge fan of Politico, and I imagine this is part of a quid pro quo from either Scott Brown or the Senate Reublican Re-elect committee. That being said, it still does not adequately explain Ms. Warren's very obvious screw-up.

Okie, I say go for it. Sounds good. My contributions will come in fits and starts as I tend to do chores and what not on the weekends. I generally have more time at night.Lms, I kind of suspect that her impact is being a little hyped as a way to keep others out of the primary. I could be wrong however. Brown has burned his bridges with the Tea Party so he needs to kneecap opposition if he wants to keep his seat. Brown served his one function (a no vote on Obamacare) and I really don't care if we keep another Maine Sister.

McWing, I'm not a Politico fan myself. We'll see if this is really an issue worthy of raising a stink over or not. I do agree with Kevin though that this is typical of the way political parties diminish their opponents. I bet it's something that blows over and is not that big of a deal.I sort of like the way MsJS calls you Mr. T. I'll just stick with McWing though as I'm used to it. Okie, I'd say just start a post with a few comments and thoughts and see where it leads. I'm thinking of doing a hobby post sometime this weekend. We'll see how well that goes over…………:-)

Lms, did you know that the FDA is now banning CFC's from asthma inhalers now? As a result, those using the OTC ONE's will have to switch to a prescription one, costing more. Seems a little silly if you ask me.

McWing, you'd think that if they can make a prescription inhaler without CFC's, they'd be able to come up with the same delivery system in and over the counter one. Hasn't this been in the works for awhile? It does seem a little over killish but wasn't it an International agreement, if I remember correctly?

Oooops, saw your link after I posted. I'm trying to think of the brand of the OC inhaler, I know my daughter carries inhalers everywhere she goes and never lets a prescription run low. She has used the OC one in an emergency on occasion ….something "mist" I think. I wonder if she's aware of this or not.

Lms, the presription ones use a propellant that is patented, and a reason (though not the only reason) for the increased cost. Agreed that this has probably been in the works for a while, but my question is why? In addition the the why, the patent for the propellant comes of in 2015 (according to the link,) so why not wait? Really, what's the harm?

I'm with you on the waiting especially since the patent is about to run out. I wonder how long it will take the makers of the OC inhaler to catch up if that's even possible though.

Done. Not to get into a whole argument over AGW v GW or anything, but if I were trying to effect a cultural change in regards to AGW, this, to me, does more damage than the actual CFC's actually do. It just looks stupid and very top-down bureaucratic.

AGW and GW are not off limits of course but I do agree better choices could be made regarding which battles should be fought. That's pretty much our stand around here. We're having lots of issues regarding desert tortoises out here and wind/solar farms. Sometimes it goes beyond the ridiculous.My youngest and I have quite naturally been discussing the oil industry a lot lately, as you can imagine, and I keep reminding her when someone looks askance at her career choice to ask them when was the last time they drove a car or bought a piece of plastic or any commodity for that matter.Pick your battles.

As a lover of hydrocarbons myself, I wished I'd have studied geology. Seems to me her career choice, whether she works with oil, minerals, water or pretty looking rocks is secure.

Yeah she's going where the science leads her as that's her passion. You probably wouldn't be surprised at some of the reaction though. We just laugh about it. She called me from Houston several months ago from a reception at Halliburton just cracking up. "Mom, you won't believe where I am?"Anyway, I'm done for tonight, thanks for the conversation.
