Tuesday Morning Opening Thread

Mitt Romney really doesn’t have much of that populist touch sometimes, does he? (As a sidenote, note the author on that piece. Think he’s a relation?)

lms noted this yesterday, but I couldn’t be prouder that the Army was out in front, leading the way on the repeal of DADT.

I haven’t really paid attention before, but is the practice of S&P cutting countries’ bond ratings> something that has happened regularly in the past, or are they throwing their weight around lately?

Bad joke of the day (and I’m really hoping that Scott or someone will edit this post and add a good one): A turtle was walking down an alley in New York when he was mugged by a gang of snails. A police detective came to investigate and asked the turtle if he could explain what happened.
The turtle looked at the detective with a confused look on his face and replied “I don’t know, it all happened so fast.”
Happy Tuesday, all!

  1. Good morning to all. It's about 5:15am now in CDT, and I'm trying to get my happy ass to work early today. It's quite a busy week for me at work and I'm worn out by the time I get home, so not much commenting from me this week. Looks like I missed some great discussions yesterday! scott, I appreciate your reposting as I think it's an important question, but I have to give it some thought and that probably won't happen until this weekend when the discussion likely will be over . . . for the time being anyway.qb, for the record, I truly appreciated the commentary on tone on this site. I will do my best and hope others do as well.michi, I'm going to add a minor detail to the FAQs, but somebody please correct if I'm wrong. In order to have your avatar show in sidebar as a "member," I think you have to be following this blog publicly. I had to change from following privately for mine to appear. It's not just a matter of signing in.kevin, YOU ARE MY HERO! I'm thrilled with the recent comments section.GROANER: Two country peanuts were walking down the street at night in the big city. As they passed a dark alley, one advised the other to never go there. "I walked that way last night and got a-salted."

  3. Thanks okie, your edit looks good.I think that Kevin (or somebody) mentioned that what browser you're using may affect how the blog looks and what options are available (qb is using IE7 and doesn't see an Html editing tab; I'm using Chrome and I don't see the strikethrough icon, either). Look at it this way, okie, we get to do it the old-fashioned way, without any of these new-fangled buttons and such! 🙂

  4. Hey, michi. Especially given the time difference, you are up and at 'em early this morning! Happy to hear the news about your house.I'm back to using Firefox browser. Chrome never really excited me, but maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance. I surely do wish Opera would not crash on my computer; it was my favorite browser yet when it worked.

Yay.I just keep using the latest version of Firefox, although I have chrome installed, I haven't had any problem with Firefox at all so…….. if it ain't broke……..

  6. Touch of insomnia, okie; I get it now and then (have you ever read Steven King's "Insomnia"? I have the kind Ralph does in the book). The advantage is that, when I do get it, it's the perfect time to catch up on reading and writing. Got a draft of a couple of "results" paragraphs done for a paper I want to propose to my boss–woohoo!! Thanks for your kind words on the house–good news, indeed! And good to hear about BG and the lead on Tao, lms! I switched from IE to Chrome back when Kevin wrote TrollHunter and have never gone back. As you say about the wheel. . .

  7. Okie, good morning, did you notice that ashot showed up thanks to sue? He is tgutwald and I'd really like to hear the story on that name. She still can't comment from work but can now read at least. Her kiln will be loaded by Sat. so she'll have more time. I have a lot of catch up to do the next couple of weeks myself. This has taken more time than I thought but I'm so happy we did it. I'm still watching for NoVA and also Georgia as well as someone Kevin wanted me to watch for at Ezra's.

  9. "kevin, YOU ARE MY HERO!"Not only the most rational thing said so far on this blog, but, indeed, the most undeniably true statement ever made.Next time, you could also note my incredible humility. And dashing good looks. :)Someone here knows MosBen, I'm sure of it. I wasn't the only person posting at Ezra's blog a year ago. 😉 BTW, if anybody has anybody they know that might like to participate, but is otherwise known to the group, but you think would be a good fit, throw them forward. I have a few, I'm just not sure they have the time to participate. All liberal, ironically.

  10. Kevin et al. NoVA just said he'd set up an email and get in touch. Of course he thinks I want to talk MedPac with him, which I do, so hopefully he won't be too disappointed. I'm monitoring Ezra's blog but haven't seen him yet.

  12. All:I would really like to comment on some of the other things going on here, but I have to, have to!, focus on work today.I finished work on my post Can Anyone Here Play This Game?, however, and am going to leave it in the cue for now. But anyone can feel free to publish it later today if you want some new content posted. (Then you'll probably find it deadly boring.)Glad to hear about tao; I was afraid he would forget to email me from work, and he has, so this saves me from looking for him at PL and dropping a reminder.Re the edit page; mine is really frustrating. The window shrinks even more vertically as I type, and blocks more of the buttons. Oh well. Can anyone tell me, though, what the two rectangular buttons are on the far left (to the left of font etc.)? I can't see them, and there is no pop-up when I place the cursor on the sliver I can see.

  13. qb, I'll put your post up some time today. I have one also and it looks like scat is working on one. I checked the post box and don't see anything to the left of font, sorry.

  15. "I'm monitoring Ezra's blog but haven't seen him yet."He may be gone. I might start posting a "hey, MosBen, are you here?" at the end of the day sometime. But he may have been driven out by the new WaPo comments system. It wasn't just Greg affected by the crazy new commenting system.
