NCAA tournament update

Good evening.  A quick word from your NCAA group commissioner.

Twelve teams have thus far earned automatic bids by virtue of either winning their conference tournament or finishing first in conferences without tournaments.  Of those twelve, only three –St. Mary’s, Creighton and Murray State– have a decent shot at making it to the round of 16.   But a first-round upset or two may be lurking.

I’ll publish the Yahoo! tournament ATiM group link Sunday afternoon before the brackets are announced so you can check out the site as soon as we learn who’s playing who.  On Monday I’ll provide links to some of the bracketologists’ prognostications, in case you want to absorb their words of wisdom.

Bracket tinkering will cease around 10:30am EDT next Thursday at the start of the first  ’round of 64′ game.

    I can already tell by our weather that I’m going to have a common-for-me NCAA tourney problem. I will spend all my time watching the games instead of taking care of chores like mowing. As soon as the tourney is over it will rain every day I’m off work so that I can’t mow. By the time there is a chance, the grass will be almost too tall to mow and it will be a real workout. Sounds like a fair trade to me.

Utah, BTW, is currently winning their Pac12 game (all of nine minutes into the game); Big 10 kicks off tomorrow and MSU is the #1 seed, playing at 10:00 MST Friday on ESPN (which means that I will be able to stream it at work. Go, State!

    Update: Well, Utah lost, so they aren’t going dancing this year. . .

    Did you know that this is also the most popular time of the year for men to get vasectomies?? No kidding–go in and get snipped on Wednesday and have the perfect excuse for taking Thursday and Friday off from work to recuperate. THAT is a true die-hard fan! 🙂

    How will the point scoring work? Mentally, I’ve always gone for 1 point for first round, 2 for second round, 4 for third round, etc.
