Aaaargh on my Sooners. And OK State barely pulled it off. We'll see if USC maintains.

I don't seem to be getting the USC/ORE game on TV, which surprises me. Wish I was. Looks like the Stanford game is a good one so far also too. TX almost got an upset.Making gumbo this evening from a recipe my brother sent (he lives just south of New Orleans).

OMG, I looked at the score wrong. Iowa State knocked off OK State. LOL, it's looking like our upcoming rivalry game will not have nearly the significance most had expected.

Well, if it makes any of you feel better, MSU kicked ass (55 – 3) over Indiana, UM beat that upstart Nebraska 45 – 17, Ohio State lost (sorry, qb, but what can I say???) and Utah beat Washington State in overtime 30 – 27. Good football weekend at Chez Michigoose! But OSU-USC is coming down to the wire–a great game!!

Good on your teams, Michi. Glad it was a good day for yours. Mine all seem to be sinking. Darn it, since ORE went down this is our chance, but we're not taking advantage of the opportunity.

USC 38, Oregon 35, they missed the field goal right at the end of the game.

I noticed that, okie (OK not seeming to capitalize, to use a broadcaster term). Finally got the streaming up and running and I'm watching the Stanford/Cal game right now.

Wow. Less than a minute to go and OU just scored a touchdown to come within 1 before pat. Go for the tie or the win?

Procedural penalty for OU going for 2, so had to kick and it's tied with 51 seconds to go.

Yep, I'm the oldest, there's just the two of us and I was 3 1/2 when she was born. My parents actually swore they'd never have another one after I was born, but that didn't exactly work out for them. I was a brat as a baby I guess but grew out of it eventually. 🙂

LOL!!!!Almost exactly the same for me (time separation, not wanting another one then, bratiness, etc.) I think it was my Dad making the best of the situation at first: here he was with a little kid and he loved football (especially UM football).I suspect that girls at either end of the sibling spectrum end up being Daddy's Girls.

Michi, congrats on MSU getting into the first-ever Big Ten conference championship football game.I ❤ football. It is my favorite spectator sport. Next Fri/Sat is the Illinois High School Association football championship marathon. Eight games over two days. Except for hosting Black Friday Fajitafest, I shall do little else those two days other than watch high school football. (Well, maybe a peak or two at the OSU-Michigan game next Saturday,)

Thanks, MsJS! My Spartans have had a good year. And I'm with you on football–this is my favorite time of the year (Labor Day to New Year's). I can turn on the TV–now computer–on Saturday morning when I get up and leave it on until after I go to bed on Sunday night and there's virtually always a football game on. In a way, not having the TV this year and discovering streaming for football has made it even better; I haven't yet had to try Mark's suggestion about going to a local sports bar (although my fellow divorcée buddy and I [she loves football as much as I do] did have our weekly dinner-and-drinks date at one last Thursday during the Chargers/Raiders game, and we could probably have had that for free if we'd wanted to–smart man, that Mr inAustn!!).Enjoy the fajitas and football!

MsJS:Next Fri/Sat is the Illinois High School Association football championship marathon.Does this mean they're showing the games on TV? Geez, I thought only the big football states did that (TX, FL, etc.). Playoffs are just starting this weekend for HS football down here.PS Are you from IL originally? I'm a Chicago-area native.

@Mike:The 8 high school championship games (schools assigned to a 'bracket' roughly based on enrollment size) have been televised in IL for at least 10 years. The small schools play their games on Friday, the bigger ones on Saturday. They're played in Shampoo-Banana at the U of I stadium.Born and bred in Cook County, lived there for all but 6 years. Mostly in the 'burbs but I lived in Chicago proper for about 13 years.

Michi:Oh, I'm not trying to convince Scott of anything — I know better than that. I just want to make sure my position is clear to him so that he knows exactly how he disagrees with me. As long as he understands it by the end of our conversation, I'll be satisfied. But it has been helpful for me to hone the precision of my wording/thinking about the subject, so that's why I have been persisting. MsJS:Guess that tells you how long ago I left IL. I was born in Chicago, but grew up in DuPage County. I did live in the city for 4+ years during grad school though. My HS football team wasn't very good when I was there — we were more a tennis/swimming school.

It's just that we were all going around in circles. Your pushback does sharpen my arguments, but at some point it becomes repetitious and we aren't moving forward.I think that we've reached the point where that particular argument (and I mean that in the debating sense) needs to be put on a back burner while we move on. . . I'm SURE it's going to come up again, and we can renew the debate. I'll bet that's how they've been going on for centuries. 🙂
