  1. But who are you and you just started a new post, lol. Go to the right and look in the archives for the post Who are you? and find out how to identify yourself.

  13. Sorry, Jerzy. Blogger may not have been the best choice–they are clearly in a process of updating the software. Didn't know that when we started here, but I'm hoping we can weather through. If not, we'll end up doing it all again somewhere else!

  15. Jerzy, I first read Painted Bird when I was in college. It had a profound effect on me and I have never forgotten it. But right now I am having difficulty recalling Being There although I would have read it too. Must be a result of all the real drugs (not the fakey designer things) back in those days.

  19. At a googlegroup brian, 12BB, and I still inhabit, shrink and Kev were former posters. I was one of the gatekeepers. STR, also known as 37th, StreetCorner, etc. tried to sneak past the gate. No. Watch for it.

  20. I didn't know that 37th tried to sneak into our google group. How did he try? Did he disguise his identity or promise to be good? Or threaten a First Amendment lawsuit (that'd be more like it). Bwahaha!! That guy is too much.

  21. A couple of questions/suggestions.1. Is there a way to have a small group of posts always visible–like Administrative posts. How to post a thread and how to change one's identity and other commonly asked questions.2. Is there a way to show the number of comments in each thread? Or some way to know whether more comments have been posted since the last time you looked at it. Right now, you have to click on each post, then scroll down to the very bottom to see if something new has occurred.

  22. are you and 12BB the invitation committee? who are the 6 & 7 in waiting? There are many people who, whenever they post make so much sense and then you never see them again, especially if it is busy. We should work on developing people who need to talk more. I've always felt like if they had a space, they'd really teach me a thing or two. Cef was like that. He was always quitting so I just got his email and asked him directly what he thinks. Now he is bolder. I have no suggestion beyond that, but if someone appears that way, are nominations ok? I don't know anyone, so I won't care if it happens or not. But you know what I mean, every once in awhile you see a Wow! who wrote that?, post on the PL and then they get heckled or ignored and that was that. We need a talent incubator a mentoring program, no I am just kidding of course, except for the kernel of the idea. Can we nominate?

  23. I am not a member of the approval committee as I had to be approved to get in. But I did throw in my 2cents on beach-music since I was asked. Other than that, I played no part in who is invited and who was not. I like your idea of a nomination list. I have very high regard for Cef, for example, as I learn something from him all the time.

  24. 12BB, it was before your time at FA. Early 2008, he emailed me under a pseudonym he had not yet used at WaPo. But he had used it elsewhere, and a google search revealed him to be "37th&O" by reason of his unusual spacing and repetitive rants. I just told him "no".He may pick up lms' email address and try it again. Scott's untimely leak has been fixed, I think. There are outstanding invitations to QB and Bernie and someone in Utah [who?], and to JudgeCrater, FairlingtonBlade, and Mnteng.Mike Teng is in China and has written to me that the government filter is limiting his access. FYI, he reports that China is rapidly building new infrastructure and studiously letting the old infrastructure rot. I think bb is also somewhat out of pocket.

  25. Actually this blog pretty much belongs to all of us. Kevin and I and a couple of others have been suggesting invitations and running them by each other but anyone can do that. As long as you think they'd be a good contributor let Kevin know because he's the one issuing the emails. As far as posting, we're all authors now. Anyone can generate a new post, please do, that's what will keep this place going, and the comments that follow. We'll receive our rewards by the comments I suppose.12Bar those are all tech questions Kevin will need to answer I think. I'm still learning to maneuver around the site myself. If you figure something out let us know, or anyone else for that matter.

  31. Mike Teng–is the filter not liking blogspot.com/blogger? Because we can move to a custom-URL. I just have to buy one. I'm not sure if there is an extra charge from blogger (I know there is from WordPress).Anyone can suggest someone. I've just been sending out the emails (it's under settings), but any admin can do it. Nice to run others by current memebers, but I'm good with anybody without a history of violence or intentional blog disruption. Utah is michigoose.Where do you want the number of comments displayed? I'm not sure that can be changed, but it's displayed at the top of the comments when you are commenting on a post, and at the the bottom of the post when you're reading the full list of posts.Admin posts can be done as pages, and the pages will be linked, always, in the sidebar. I don't think it has a way to pin posts, ala WordPress, but maybe it's in there somewhere. But I'd prefer to build true administrative information as pages. I'll create a sample for a start, anyone will be able to edit it . . .I put one up. It's called "Sample Administrative Page". It's in the top bar . . . anyone can edit.

  32. Strongly second tao, and hope Kev has his email address. It is dangerous to troll for emails repeatedly at the WaPo, if you get my drift, TMW.

  33. Kev, Mike will be back in FL shortly. I had sent him a pharmaceutical research article so that he could freely enlighten me [remember that I really use these contacts to ask questions about stuff of which I am currently ignorant but curious] and the article link was censored. So it is a pretty tough firewall over there.
